⁵ He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars^(A)—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring^[a] be.”^(B)

¹⁸ Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation,^(A) and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.^[a]

¹⁸ and through your offspring^[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,^[b](A) because you have obeyed me.”^(B)

⁴ I will make your descendants^(A) as numerous as the stars in the sky^(B) and will give them all these lands,^(C) and through your offspring^[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,^[b](D)

¹⁴ Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you^(A) will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.^(B) All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.^[a](C)

²⁰ You intended to harm me,^(A) but God intended^(B) it for good^(C) to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.^(D)
