    May your enemies be scattered;^(B)

⁴ Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,^(A)
    extol him who rides on the clouds^[a](B);
    rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.^(C)

⁵ With one mind they plot together;^(I)
    they form an alliance against you—
⁶ the tents of Edom^(J) and the Ishmaelites,
    of Moab^(K) and the Hagrites,^(L)
7 Byblos,^(M) Ammon^(N) and Amalek,^(O)
    Philistia,^(P) with the people of Tyre.^(Q)
8 Even Assyria^(R) has joined them
    to reinforce Lot’s descendants.^[b](S)

Sing to the Lord a new song,^(B)
    his praise in the assembly^(C) of his faithful people.

² Let Israel rejoice^(D) in their Maker;^(E)
    let the people of Zion be glad in their King.^(F)
3 Let them praise his name with dancing^(G)
    and make music to him with timbrel and harp.^(H)
4 For the Lord takes delight^(I) in his people;
    he crowns the humble with victory.^(J)
5 Let his faithful people rejoice^(K) in this honor
    and sing for joy on their beds.^(L)

⁶ May the praise of God be in their mouths^(M)
    and a double-edged^(N) sword in their hands,^(O)
7 to inflict vengeance^(P) on the nations
    and punishment^(Q) on the peoples,
⁸ to bind their kings with fetters,^(R)
    their nobles with shackles of iron,^(S)
9 to carry out the sentence written against them—^(T)
    this is the glory of all his faithful people.^(U)

Praise the Lord.

¹⁸ For a little while^(A) your people possessed your holy place,
    but now our enemies have trampled^(B) down your sanctuary.^(C)
19 We are yours from of old;
    but you have not ruled over them,
    they have not been called^[a] by your name.^(D)

64 ^[b]Oh, that you would rend the heavens^(E) and come down,^(F)
    that the mountains^(G) would tremble before you!
² As when fire sets twigs ablaze
    and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name^(H) known to your enemies
    and cause the nations to quake^(I) before you!
³ For when you did awesome^(J) things that we did not expect,
    you came down, and the mountains trembled^(K) before you.
⁴ Since ancient times no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,^(L)
    who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.^(M)
5 You come to the help of those who gladly do right,^(N)
    who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
    you were angry.^(O)
    How then can we be saved?
⁶ All of us have become like one who is unclean,^(P)
    and all our righteous^(Q) acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,^(R)
    and like the wind our sins sweep us away.^(S)
7 No one^(T) calls on your name^(U)
    or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden^(V) your face from us
    and have given us over^(W) to^[c] our sins.

⁸ Yet you, Lord, are our Father.^(X)
    We are the clay, you are the potter;^(Y)
    we are all the work of your hand.^(Z)
9 Do not be angry^(AA) beyond measure, Lord;
    do not remember our sins^(AB) forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
    for we are all your people.^(AC)
10 Your sacred cities^(AD) have become a wasteland;
    even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.^(AE)
11 Our holy and glorious temple,^(AF) where our ancestors praised you,
    has been burned with fire,
    and all that we treasured^(AG) lies in ruins.
¹² After all this, Lord, will you hold yourself back?^(AH)
    Will you keep silent^(AI) and punish us beyond measure?
