⁵ One person considers one day more sacred than another;^(A) another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. ⁶ Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God;^(B) and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

¹⁷ These are a shadow of the things that were to come;^(A) the reality, however, is found in Christ.

⁷ On the first day of the week^(A) we came together to break bread.^(B) Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight.

¹¹ Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad^(A)—in order that God’s purpose^(B) in election might stand:

² On the first day of every week,^(A) each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.^(B)

³ Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?^[a]

⁹ But now that you know God—or rather are known by God^(A)—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces^[a]? Do you wish to be enslaved^(B) by them all over again?^{(C) 10} You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!^(D)

⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law,^(A) but that which is through faith in^[a] Christ—the righteousness^(B) that comes from God on the basis of faith.^(C)

¹³ By calling this covenant “new,”^(A) he has made the first one obsolete;^(B) and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
