Romans 5:17-6:6

New International Version

¹⁷ For if, by the trespass of the one man, death^(A) reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life^(B) through the one man, Jesus Christ!

¹⁸ Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people,^(C) so also one righteous act resulted in justification^(D) and life^(E) for all people. ¹⁹ For just as through the disobedience of the one man^(F) the many were made sinners,^(G) so also through the obedience^(H) of the one man the many will be made righteous.

²⁰ The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase.^(I) But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,^{(J) 21} so that, just as sin reigned in death,^(K) so also grace^(L) might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life^(M) through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ

6 What shall we say, then?^(N) Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?^{(O) 2} By no means! We are those who have died to sin;^(P) how can we live in it any longer? ³ Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized^(Q) into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴ We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death^(R) in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead^(S) through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.^(T)

⁵ For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.^{(U) 6} For we know that our old self^(V) was crucified with him^(W) so that the body ruled by sin^(X) might be done away with,^[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin^(Y)—
