2 Samuel 7:11-16

¹¹ever since the day I ordered judges to be over My people Israel.^(A) I will give you rest from all your enemies.

“‘The Lord declares to you: The Lord Himself will make a house for you. ¹²When your time comes and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.^(B) ¹³He will build a house for My name,^(C) and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.^(D) ¹⁴I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me.^(E) When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a human rod and with blows from others. ¹⁵But My faithful love will never leave him^(F) as I removed it from Saul; I removed him from your way.^(G) ¹⁶Your house and kingdom will endure before Me^[a] forever,^(H) and your throne will be established forever.’”^(I)

David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

¹⁸Then King David went in,^(A) sat in the Lord’s presence, and said,

Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far? ¹⁹What You have done so far^[a] was a little thing to You, Lord God, for You have also spoken about Your servant’s house in the distant future. And this is a revelation^[b] for mankind, Lord God. ²⁰What more can David say to You? You know Your servant,^(B) Lord God. ²¹Because of Your word and according to Your will, You have revealed all these great things to Your servant.

²²This is why You are great,^(C) Lord God. There is no one like You, and there is no God besides You,^(D) as all we have heard confirms. ²³And who is like Your people Israel? God came to one nation on earth in order to redeem a people for Himself, to make a name for Himself, and to perform for them^[c] great and awesome acts, driving out nations and their gods before Your people You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt.^(E) ²⁴You established Your people Israel to be Your own people forever, and You, Lord, have become their God.^(F)

Solomon’s Blessing

⁵⁴When Solomon finished praying this entire prayer and petition to the Lord, he got up from kneeling before the altar of the Lord, with his hands spread out toward heaven,^(A) ⁵⁵and he stood and blessed the whole congregation of Israel^(B) with a loud voice: ⁵⁶“May the Lord be praised! He has given rest^(C) to His people Israel according to all He has said. Not one of all the good promises He made through His servant Moses has failed.^(D) ⁵⁷May the Lord our God be with us as He was with our ancestors. May He not abandon us or leave us^(E) ⁵⁸so that He causes us to be devoted^[a] to Him,^(F) to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commands, statutes, and ordinances, which He commanded our ancestors. ⁵⁹May my words I have made my petition with before the Lord be near the Lord our God day and night, so that He may uphold His servant’s cause and the cause of His people Israel, as each day requires,^(G) ⁶⁰and so that all the peoples of the earth may know that Yahweh is God. There is no other!^(H) ⁶¹Let your heart be completely devoted to the Lord our God^(I) to walk in His statutes and to keep His commands, as it is today.”
