¹¹ He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take^(A) your sons and make them serve^(B) with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots.^(C)

Absalom’s Conspiracy

15 In the course of time,^(A) Absalom provided himself with a chariot^(B) and horses and with fifty men to run ahead of him.

⁵ Now Adonijah,^(A) whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, “I will be king.” So he got chariots^(B) and horses^[a] ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.

²⁸ Whenever the king went to the Lord’s temple, the guards bore the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom.
