God’s Glory Returns to the Temple

43 Then the man brought me to the gate facing east,^{(A) 2} and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters,^(B) and the land was radiant with his glory.^{(C) 3} The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when he^[a] came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown. ⁴ The glory^(D) of the Lord entered the temple through the gate facing east.^{(E) 5} Then the Spirit^(F) lifted me up^(G) and brought me into the inner court, and the glory^(H) of the Lord filled the temple.^(I)

⁶ While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple. ⁷ He said: “Son of man, this is the place of my throne^(J) and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The people of Israel will never again defile^(K) my holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their prostitution and the funeral offerings^[b] for their kings at their death.^{[c](L) 8} When they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by their detestable practices. So I destroyed them in my anger.

² “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup^(A) that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling.^(B) Judah^(C) will be besieged as well as Jerusalem.

³ On that day, when all the nations^(A) of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock^(B) for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure^(C) themselves.

³ Then the Lord will go out and fight^(A) against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle.^(B)

¹⁹ This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.^(A)

²⁰ On that day holy to the Lord^(B) will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots^(C) in the Lord’s house will be like the sacred bowls^(D) in front of the altar. ²¹ Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy^(E) to the Lord Almighty, and all who come to sacrifice will take some of the pots and cook in them. And on that day^(F) there will no longer be a Canaanite^[a](G) in the house^(H) of the Lord Almighty.^(I)
