⁵ and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,

⁷ It is for discipline that you endure; ^(E)God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, ^(F)of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we had ^[a]earthly fathers to discipline us, and we ^(G)respected them; shall we not much more be subject to ^(H)the Father of ^[b]spirits, and ^(I)live? ¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, ^(J)so that we may share His holiness. ^11 (K)For the moment, all discipline seems not to be pleasant, but painful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterward it yields the ^(L)peaceful fruit of righteousness.

^16 (A)You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and ^(B)bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that ^(C)whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

Prayer Promises

²³ And ^(A)on that day ^(B)you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly I say to you, ^(C)if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.
