Hosea 8:5-6

New International Version

⁵Samaria, throw out your calf-idol!^(A)
    My anger burns against them.
How long will they be incapable of purity?^(B)
⁶    They are from Israel!
This calf—a metalworker has made it;
    it is not God.^(C)
It will be broken in pieces,
    that calf^(D) of Samaria.^(E)

⁵The people who live in Samaria fear
    for the calf-idol^(A) of Beth Aven.^[a]^(B)
Its people will mourn over it,
    and so will its idolatrous priests,^(C)
those who had rejoiced over its splendor,
    because it is taken from them into exile.^(D)
⁶It will be carried to Assyria^(E)
    as tribute^(F) for the great king.^(G)
Ephraim will be disgraced;^(H)
    Israel will be ashamed^(I) of its foreign alliances.
