⁷² Immediately the rooster crowed the second time.^[a] Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice^[b] you will disown me three times.”^(A) And he broke down and wept.

⁶¹ The Lord^(A) turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”^(B)

⁶² And he went outside and wept bitterly.
