Jesus’ Betrayal and Arrest

47 (A)And while He was still speaking, behold, (B)Judas, one of the twelve, came [a]accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs, who came from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign previously, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him.” 49 And immediately Judas went up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, (C)Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 50 But Jesus said to him, (D)Friend, do what you have come for.” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and arrested Him.

51 And behold, (E)one of those who were with Jesus [b]reached and drew his (F)sword, and struck the (G)slave of the high priest and [c]cut off his ear. 52 Then Jesus *said to him, “Put your sword back into its place; for (H)all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve [d](I)legions of (J)angels? 54 How then would (K)the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?”

55 At that time Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me as you would against a man inciting a revolt? (L)Every day I used to sit within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me. 56 But all this has taken place so that (M)the Scriptures of the prophets will be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left Him and fled.

Betrayal and Arrest

43 (A)And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, *came up, [a]accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs who were from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. 44 Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him and lead Him away [b]under guard.” 45 And after coming, Judas immediately went to Him and *said, “(B)Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 46 And they laid hands on Him and arrested Him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and [c]cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a man inciting a revolt? 49 Every day I was with you (C)within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me; but this has taken place so that the Scriptures will be fulfilled.” 50 And [d]His disciples all left Him and fled.

51 A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him. 52 But he [e]pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.

Jesus Betrayed by Judas

47 (A)While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading the way for them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the (B)sword?” 50 And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus responded and said, [a]Stop! No more of this.” And He touched his ear and healed him. 52 And Jesus said to the chief priests and (C)officers of the temple and elders who had come against Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs (D)as you would against a man inciting a revolt? 53 While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but [b]this hour and the power of darkness are yours.”

Judas Betrays Jesus

18 When Jesus had spoken these words, (A)He went away with His disciples across (B)the [a]ravine of the Kidron, where there was (C)a garden which He entered [b]with His disciples. Now Judas, who was [c]betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus had (D)often met there with His disciples. (E)So Judas, having obtained (F)the Roman [d]cohort and (G)officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, *came there with lanterns, (H)torches, and weapons. Jesus therefore, (I)knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, came out into the open and *said to them, (J)Whom are you seeking?” They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He *said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them. Now then, when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground. He then asked them again, (K)Whom are you seeking?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.” Jesus answered, “I told you that I am He; so if you are seeking Me, let these men go on their way.” This took place so that the word which He spoke would be fulfilled: (L)Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one.” 10 Then Simon Peter, (M)since he had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave’s name was Malchus. 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; (N)the cup which the Father has given Me, am I not to drink it?”

Jesus before the Priests

12 (O)So (P)the Roman [e]cohort, the [f]commander, and the (Q)officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him,
