Book Four

From Everlasting to Everlasting

A (A)Prayer of Moses, the (B)man of God.

90 Lord, you have been our (C)dwelling place[a]
    in all generations.
(D)Before the (E)mountains were brought forth,
    or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
    (F)from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

You return man to dust
    and say, (G)“Return, (H)O children of man!”[b]
For (I)a thousand years in your sight
    are but as (J)yesterday when it is past,
    or as (K)a watch in the night.

You (L)sweep them away as with a flood; they are like (M)a dream,
    like (N)grass that is renewed in the morning:
in (O)the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
    in the evening it (P)fades and (Q)withers.

For we are brought to an end by your anger;
    by your wrath we are dismayed.
You have (R)set our iniquities before you,
    our (S)secret sins in the light of your presence.

For all our days pass away under your wrath;
    we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
    or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span[c] is but toil and trouble;
    they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
    and your wrath according to the fear of you?

12 (T)So teach us to number our days
    that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 (U)Return, O Lord! (V)How long?
    Have (W)pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the (X)morning with your steadfast love,
    that we may (Y)rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have (Z)afflicted us,
    and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your (AA)work be shown to your servants,
    and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the (AB)favor[d] of the Lord our God be upon us,
    and establish (AC)the work of our hands upon us;
    yes, establish the work of our hands!

My Refuge and My Fortress

91 He who dwells in (AD)the shelter of the Most High
    will abide in (AE)the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say[e] to the Lord, “My (AF)refuge and my (AG)fortress,
    my God, in whom I (AH)trust.”

For he will deliver you from (AI)the snare of the fowler
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will (AJ)cover you with his pinions,
    and under his (AK)wings you will (AL)find refuge;
    his (AM)faithfulness is (AN)a shield and buckler.
(AO)You will not fear (AP)the terror of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
    nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
    and (AQ)see the recompense of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord your (AR)dwelling place—
    the Most High, who is my (AS)refuge[f]
10 (AT)no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
    (AU)no plague come near your tent.

11 (AV)For he will command his (AW)angels concerning you
    to (AX)guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
    lest you (AY)strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on (AZ)the lion and the (BA)adder;
    the young lion and (BB)the serpent you will (BC)trample underfoot.

14 “Because he (BD)holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
    I will protect him, because he (BE)knows my name.
15 When he (BF)calls to me, I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble;
    I will rescue him and (BG)honor him.
16 With (BH)long life I will satisfy him
    and (BI)show him my salvation.”

How Great Are Your Works

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.

92 (BJ)It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
    to sing praises to your name, (BK)O Most High;
to declare your (BL)steadfast love in (BM)the morning,
    and your (BN)faithfulness by (BO)night,
to the music of (BP)the lute and (BQ)the harp,
    to the melody of (BR)the lyre.
For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your (BS)work;
    at (BT)the works of your hands I sing for joy.

How (BU)great are your works, O Lord!
    Your (BV)thoughts are very (BW)deep!
The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:
that though (BX)the wicked sprout like grass
    and all (BY)evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction forever;
    but you, O Lord, are (BZ)on high forever.
For behold, your enemies, O Lord,
    for behold, your enemies shall perish;
    all evildoers shall be (CA)scattered.

10 But you have exalted my (CB)horn like that of (CC)the wild ox;
    you have (CD)poured over me[g] fresh oil.
11 My (CE)eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies;
    my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.

12 (CF)The righteous flourish like the palm tree
    and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 They are planted in the house of the Lord;
    they flourish in (CG)the courts of our God.
14 They still bear fruit in old age;
    they are ever full of sap and green,
15 (CH)to declare that the Lord is upright;
    he is my (CI)rock, and there is (CJ)no unrighteousness in him.

The Lord Reigns

93 (CK)The Lord reigns; he is (CL)robed in majesty;
    the Lord is (CM)robed; he has (CN)put on strength as his belt.
(CO)Yes, the world is established; (CP)it shall never be moved.
(CQ)Your throne is established from of old;
    (CR)you are from everlasting.

(CS)The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
    the floods have lifted up their voice;
    the floods lift up their roaring.
Mightier than the thunders of many waters,
    mightier than the waves of the sea,
    (CT)the Lord (CU)on high is mighty!

Your (CV)decrees are very trustworthy;
    (CW)holiness befits your house,
    O Lord, forevermore.

The Lord Will Not Forsake His People

94 O Lord, God of (CX)vengeance,
    O God of vengeance, (CY)shine forth!
(CZ)Rise up, O (DA)judge of the earth;
    repay to the (DB)proud what they deserve!
O Lord, (DC)how long shall the wicked,
    how long shall (DD)the wicked exult?
They pour out their (DE)arrogant words;
    all (DF)the evildoers boast.
They (DG)crush your people, O Lord,
    and afflict your heritage.
They kill (DH)the widow and the sojourner,
    and murder (DI)the fatherless;
(DJ)and they say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob does not perceive.”

(DK)Understand, O dullest of the people!
    Fools, when will you be wise?
(DL)He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10 He who (DM)disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who (DN)teaches man knowledge—
11     (DO)the Lord—knows the thoughts of man,
    that they are (DP)but a breath.[h]

12 (DQ)Blessed is the man whom you (DR)discipline, O Lord,
    and whom you teach out of your law,
13 to give him (DS)rest from (DT)days of trouble,
    until (DU)a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 (DV)For the Lord will not forsake his (DW)people;
    he will not abandon his (DX)heritage;
15 for (DY)justice will return to the righteous,
    and all the upright in heart will (DZ)follow it.

16 (EA)Who rises up for me against the wicked?
    Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 (EB)If the Lord had not been my help,
    my soul would soon have lived in the land of (EC)silence.
18 When I thought, (ED)“My foot slips,”
    your steadfast love, O Lord, (EE)held me up.
19 When the cares of my heart are many,
    your consolations cheer my soul.
20 Can (EF)wicked rulers be allied with you,
    those who frame[i] injustice by (EG)statute?
21 They (EH)band together against the life of the righteous
    and condemn (EI)the innocent to death.[j]
22 But the Lord has become my (EJ)stronghold,
    and my God (EK)the rock of my (EL)refuge.
23 He will bring back on them (EM)their iniquity
    and (EN)wipe them out for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will wipe them out.

Let Us Sing Songs of Praise

95 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
    let us (EO)make a joyful noise to (EP)the rock of our salvation!
Let us (EQ)come into his presence with thanksgiving;
    let us (ER)make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is (ES)a great God,
    and a great King (ET)above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
    the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for (EU)he made it,
    and his hands formed (EV)the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
    let us (EW)kneel before the Lord, our (EX)Maker!
For he is our (EY)God,
    and we are the people of his (EZ)pasture,
    and the sheep of his hand.
(FA)Today, if you (FB)hear his voice,
    (FC)do not harden your hearts, as at (FD)Meribah,
    as on the day at (FE)Massah in the wilderness,
when your fathers put me to the (FF)test
    and put me to the proof, though they had seen my (FG)work.
10 (FH)For forty years I loathed that generation
    and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart,
    and they have not known (FI)my ways.”
11 Therefore I (FJ)swore in my wrath,
    “They shall not enter (FK)my rest.”

Worship in the Splendor of Holiness

96 (FL)Oh sing to the Lord (FM)a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
    (FN)tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous works among all the peoples!
For (FO)great is the Lord, and (FP)greatly to be praised;
    he is to be feared above (FQ)all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
    but the Lord (FR)made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
    (FS)strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, O (FT)families of the peoples,
    (FU)ascribe to the Lord glory and strength!
Ascribe to the Lord (FV)the glory due his name;
    bring (FW)an offering, and (FX)come into his courts!
Worship the Lord in (FY)the splendor of holiness;[k]
    (FZ)tremble before him, all the earth!

10 Say among the nations, (GA)“The Lord reigns!
    Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved;
    he will (GB)judge the peoples with equity.”

11 Let (GC)the heavens be glad, and let (GD)the earth rejoice;
    let (GE)the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12     let (GF)the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all (GG)the trees of the forest sing for joy
13     before the Lord, for he comes,
    for he comes (GH)to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness,
    and the peoples in his faithfulness.

The Lord Reigns

97 (GI)The Lord reigns, (GJ)let the earth rejoice;
    let the many (GK)coastlands be glad!
(GL)Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;
    (GM)righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
(GN)Fire goes before him
    and burns up his adversaries all around.
His (GO)lightnings light up the world;
    the earth sees and (GP)trembles.
The mountains (GQ)melt like (GR)wax before the Lord,
    before (GS)the Lord of all the earth.

(GT)The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all (GU)the peoples see his glory.
All worshipers of images are (GV)put to shame,
    who make their boast in (GW)worthless idols;
    (GX)worship him, all you gods!

Zion hears and (GY)is glad,
    and the daughters of Judah rejoice,
    because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you, O Lord, are (GZ)most high over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above (HA)all gods.

10 O you who love the Lord, (HB)hate evil!
    He (HC)preserves the lives of his (HD)saints;
    he (HE)delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 (HF)Light (HG)is sown[l] for the righteous,
    and joy for the upright in heart.
12 (HH)Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous,
    and (HI)give thanks to his holy name!

Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord

A Psalm.

98 Oh sing to the Lord (HJ)a new song,
    for he has done (HK)marvelous things!
His (HL)right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has (HM)made known his salvation;
    he has (HN)revealed his righteousness in (HO)the sight of the nations.
He has (HP)remembered his (HQ)steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All (HR)the ends of the earth have seen
    (HS)the salvation of our God.

(HT)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
    (HU)break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and the (HV)sound of melody!
With (HW)trumpets and the sound of (HX)the horn
    (HY)make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

(HZ)Let the sea roar, and (IA)all that fills it;
    (IB)the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers (IC)clap their hands;
    let (ID)the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord, for he comes
    to (IE)judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
    and the peoples with equity.

The Lord Our God Is Holy

99 (IF)The Lord reigns; (IG)let the peoples tremble!
    He (IH)sits enthroned upon the cherubim; (II)let the earth quake!
The Lord is (IJ)great in Zion;
    he is (IK)exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your (IL)great and awesome name!
    (IM)Holy is he!
(IN)The King in his might (IO)loves justice.[m]
    You have established equity;
you have executed justice
    and righteousness in Jacob.
(IP)Exalt the Lord our God;
    (IQ)worship at his (IR)footstool!
    (IS)Holy is he!

(IT)Moses and Aaron were among his (IU)priests,
    Samuel also was among those who (IV)called upon his name.
    They (IW)called to the Lord, and he answered them.
In (IX)the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them;
    they (IY)kept his testimonies
    and the statute that he gave them.

O Lord our God, you answered them;
    you were (IZ)a forgiving God to them,
    but (JA)an avenger of their wrongdoings.
Exalt the Lord our God,
    and worship at his (JB)holy mountain;
    for the Lord our God is holy!

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

A Psalm for (JC)giving thanks.

100 (JD)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
    (JE)Serve the Lord with gladness!
    (JF)Come into his presence with singing!

Know that (JG)the Lord, he is God!
    It is he who (JH)made us, and (JI)we are his;[n]
    we are his (JJ)people, and (JK)the sheep of his pasture.

(JL)Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his (JM)courts with praise!
    Give thanks to him; (JN)bless his name!

(JO)For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
    and his (JP)faithfulness to all generations.

I Will Walk with Integrity

A Psalm of David.

101 I will sing of (JQ)steadfast love and justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will make music.
I will (JR)ponder the way (JS)that is blameless.
    Oh when will you (JT)come to me?
I will (JU)walk with (JV)integrity of heart
    within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
    anything (JW)that is worthless.
I hate the work of those who (JX)fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.
(JY)A perverse heart shall be far from me;
    I will (JZ)know nothing of evil.

Whoever slanders his neighbor (KA)secretly
    I will (KB)destroy.
Whoever has a (KC)haughty look and an (KD)arrogant heart
    I will not endure.

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
    that they may dwell with me;
he who walks in (KE)the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.

No one who (KF)practices deceit
    shall dwell in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall (KG)continue before my eyes.

(KH)Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
(KI)cutting off all (KJ)the evildoers
    from (KK)the city of the Lord.

Do Not Hide Your Face from Me

A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is (KL)faint and (KM)pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102 (KN)Hear my prayer, O Lord;
let my cry (KO)come to you!
(KP)Do not hide your face from me
    in (KQ)the day of my distress!
(KR)Incline your ear to me;
    (KS)answer me speedily (KT)in the day when I call!

For my days (KU)pass away like smoke,
    and my (KV)bones burn like a furnace.
My heart is (KW)struck down like grass and (KX)has withered;
    I (KY)forget to eat my bread.
Because of my loud groaning
    my (KZ)bones cling to my flesh.
I am like (LA)a desert owl of the wilderness,
    like an owl[o] of the waste places;
I (LB)lie awake;
    I am like a lonely sparrow on the housetop.
All the day my enemies taunt me;
    those who (LC)deride me (LD)use my name for a curse.
For I eat ashes like bread
    and (LE)mingle tears with my drink,
10 because of your indignation and anger;
    for you have (LF)taken me up and (LG)thrown me down.
11 My days are like (LH)an evening shadow;
    I (LI)wither away like grass.

12 But you, O Lord, are (LJ)enthroned forever;
    you (LK)are remembered throughout all generations.
13 You will (LL)arise and have (LM)pity on Zion;
    it is the time to favor her;
    (LN)the appointed time has come.
14 For your servants hold her (LO)stones dear
    and have pity on her dust.
15 Nations will (LP)fear the name of the Lord,
    and all (LQ)the kings of the earth will fear your glory.
16 For the Lord (LR)builds up Zion;
    he (LS)appears in his glory;
17 he (LT)regards the prayer of the destitute
    and does not despise their prayer.

18 Let this be (LU)recorded for (LV)a generation to come,
    so that (LW)a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:
19 that he (LX)looked down from his holy height;
    from heaven the Lord looked at the earth,
20 to hear (LY)the groans of the prisoners,
    to set free (LZ)those who were doomed to die,
21 that they may (MA)declare in Zion the name of the Lord,
    and in Jerusalem his praise,
22 when (MB)peoples gather together,
    and kingdoms, to worship the Lord.

23 He has broken my strength in midcourse;
    he (MC)has shortened my days.
24 “O my God,” (MD)I say, “take me not away
    in the midst of my days—
(ME)you whose years endure
    throughout all generations!”

25 (MF)Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,
    and (MG)the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 (MH)They will perish, but (MI)you will remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,
27     but (MJ)you are the same, and your years have no end.
28 (MK)The children of your servants (ML)shall dwell secure;
    (MM)their offspring shall be established before you.

Bless the Lord, O My Soul

Of David.

103 (MN)Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and all that is within me,
    bless his holy name!
(MO)Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and (MP)forget not all his benefits,
who (MQ)forgives all your iniquity,
    who (MR)heals all your diseases,
who (MS)redeems your life from the pit,
    who (MT)crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who (MU)satisfies you with good
    so that your youth is renewed like (MV)the eagle's.

The Lord works (MW)righteousness
    and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his (MX)ways to Moses,
    his (MY)acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is (MZ)merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
(NA)He will not always chide,
    nor will he (NB)keep his anger forever.
10 He does not deal with us (NC)according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For (ND)as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his (NE)steadfast love toward (NF)those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west,
    so far does he (NG)remove our transgressions from us.
13 As (NH)a father shows compassion to his children,
    so the Lord shows compassion (NI)to those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame;[p]
    he (NJ)remembers that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like (NK)grass;
    he flourishes like (NL)a flower of the field;
16 for (NM)the wind passes over it, and (NN)it is gone,
    and (NO)its place knows it no more.
17 But (NP)the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on (NQ)those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to (NR)children's children,
18 to those who (NS)keep his covenant
    and (NT)remember to do his commandments.
19 The Lord has (NU)established his throne in the heavens,
    and his (NV)kingdom rules over all.

20 Bless the Lord, O you (NW)his angels,
    you (NX)mighty ones who (NY)do his word,
    obeying the voice of his word!
21 Bless the Lord, all his (NZ)hosts,
    his (OA)ministers, who do his will!
22 (OB)Bless the Lord, all his works,
    in all places of his dominion.
(OC)Bless the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord My God, You Are Very Great

104 (OD)Bless the Lord, O my soul!
    O Lord my God, you are (OE)very great!
(OF)You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
    covering yourself with light as with a garment,
    (OG)stretching out the heavens (OH)like a tent.
He (OI)lays the beams of his (OJ)chambers on the waters;
he makes (OK)the clouds his chariot;
    he rides on (OL)the wings of the wind;
he (OM)makes his messengers winds,
    his (ON)ministers (OO)a flaming fire.

He (OP)set the earth on its foundations,
    so that it should never be moved.
You (OQ)covered it with the deep as with a garment;
    the waters stood above the mountains.
At (OR)your rebuke they fled;
    at (OS)the sound of your thunder they (OT)took to flight.
The mountains rose, the valleys sank down
    to the place that you (OU)appointed for them.
You set (OV)a boundary that they may not pass,
    so that they (OW)might not again cover the earth.

10 You make springs gush forth in the valleys;
    they flow between the hills;
11 they (OX)give drink to every beast of the field;
    the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell;
    they sing among the branches.
13 (OY)From your lofty abode you (OZ)water the mountains;
    the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.

14 You cause (PA)the grass to grow for the livestock
    and (PB)plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth (PC)food from the earth
15     and (PD)wine to gladden the heart of man,
(PE)oil to make his face shine
    and bread to (PF)strengthen man's heart.

16 The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
    (PG)the cedars of Lebanon (PH)that he planted.
17 In them the birds build their nests;
    the stork has her home in the fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for (PI)the wild goats;
    the rocks are a refuge for (PJ)the rock badgers.

19 He made the moon to mark the (PK)seasons;[q]
    the sun knows its time for setting.
20 (PL)You make darkness, and it is night,
    when all the beasts of the forest creep about.
21 (PM)The young lions roar for their prey,
    seeking their food from God.
22 When the sun rises, they steal away
    and lie down in their (PN)dens.
23 (PO)Man goes out to his work
    and to his labor until the evening.

24 O Lord, how manifold are your works!
    In (PP)wisdom have you made them all;
    the earth is full of your creatures.
25 Here is the sea, great and wide,
    (PQ)which teems with creatures innumerable,
    living things both small and great.
26 There go the ships,
    and (PR)Leviathan, which you formed to (PS)play in it.[r]

27 These (PT)all look to you,
    to (PU)give them their food in due season.
28 When you give it to them, they gather it up;
    when you (PV)open your hand, they are filled with good things.
29 When you (PW)hide your face, they are (PX)dismayed;
    when you (PY)take away their breath, they die
    and (PZ)return to their dust.
30 When you (QA)send forth your Spirit,[s] they are created,
    and you (QB)renew the face of the ground.

31 May the glory of the Lord (QC)endure forever;
    may the Lord (QD)rejoice in his works,
32 who looks on the earth and it (QE)trembles,
    who (QF)touches the mountains and they smoke!
33 I will sing to the Lord (QG)as long as I live;
    I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
34 May my (QH)meditation be pleasing to him,
    for I rejoice in the Lord.
35 Let (QI)sinners be consumed from the earth,
    and let the wicked be no more!
(QJ)Bless the Lord, O my soul!
(QK)Praise the Lord!

Tell of All His Wondrous Works

105 (QL)Oh give thanks to the Lord; (QM)call upon his name;
    (QN)make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
    (QO)tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
    let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his (QP)strength;
    (QQ)seek his presence continually!
Remember the (QR)wondrous works that he has done,
    his miracles, and (QS)the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of (QT)Abraham, his servant,
    children of Jacob, his (QU)chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
    his (QV)judgments are in all the earth.
He (QW)remembers his covenant forever,
    the word that he commanded, for (QX)a thousand generations,
(QY)the covenant that he made with Abraham,
    his (QZ)sworn promise to Isaac,
10 which he confirmed to (RA)Jacob as a statute,
    to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, (RB)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
    as (RC)your portion for an inheritance.”

12 When they were (RD)few in number,
    of little account, and (RE)sojourners in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation,
    from one kingdom to another people,
14 he (RF)allowed no one to oppress them;
    he (RG)rebuked kings on their account,
15 saying, (RH)“Touch not my anointed ones,
    do my prophets no harm!”

16 When he (RI)summoned a famine on the land
    and (RJ)broke all supply[t] of bread,
17 he had (RK)sent a man ahead of them,
    Joseph, who was (RL)sold as a slave.
18 His (RM)feet were hurt with fetters;
    his neck was put in a collar of iron;
19 until (RN)what he had said came to pass,
    the word of the Lord (RO)tested him.
20 (RP)The king sent and (RQ)released him;
    the ruler of the peoples set him free;
21 he (RR)made him lord of his house
    and ruler of all his possessions,
22 to bind[u] his princes at his pleasure
    and to teach his elders wisdom.
