Psalm 93

The Majesty of God’s Rule

The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty;
    the Lord is robed; he is girded with strength.
He has established the world; it shall never be moved;(A)
    your throne is established from of old;
    you are from everlasting.(B)

The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
    the floods have lifted up their voice;
    the floods lift up their roaring.
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters,
    more majestic than the waves[a] of the sea,
    majestic on high is the Lord!(C)

Your decrees are very sure;
    holiness befits your house,
    O Lord, forevermore.(D)

Psalm 94

God the Avenger of the Righteous

O Lord, you God of vengeance,
    you God of vengeance, shine forth!(E)
Rise up, O judge of the earth;
    give to the proud what they deserve!(F)
O Lord, how long shall the wicked,
    how long shall the wicked exult?(G)

They pour out their arrogant words;
    all the evildoers boast.(H)
They crush your people, O Lord,
    and afflict your heritage.
They kill the widow and the stranger;
    they murder the orphan,
and they say, “The Lord does not see;
    the God of Jacob does not perceive.”(I)

Understand, O dullest of the people;
    fools, when will you be wise?(J)
He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?(K)
10 He who disciplines the nations,
he who teaches knowledge to humankind,
    does he not chastise?(L)
11 The Lord knows our thoughts,[b]
    that they are but an empty breath.(M)

12 Happy are those whom you discipline, O Lord,
    and whom you teach out of your law,(N)
13 giving them respite from days of trouble,
    until a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the Lord will not forsake his people;
    he will not abandon his heritage;(O)
15 for justice will return to the righteous,
    and all the upright in heart will follow it.

16 Who rises up for me against the wicked?
    Who stands up for me against evildoers?(P)
17 If the Lord had not been my help,
    my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence.(Q)
18 When I thought, “My foot is slipping,”
    your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.(R)
19 When the cares of my heart are many,
    your consolations cheer my soul.(S)
20 Can wicked rulers be allied with you,
    those who contrive mischief by statute?(T)
21 They band together against the life of the righteous
    and condemn the innocent to death.(U)
22 But the Lord has become my stronghold
    and my God the rock of my refuge.(V)
23 He will repay them for their iniquity
    and wipe them out for their wickedness;
    the Lord our God will wipe them out.(W)

Psalm 95

A Call to Worship and Obedience

O come, let us sing to the Lord;
    let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!(X)
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
    let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!(Y)
For the Lord is a great God
    and a great King above all gods.(Z)
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
    the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and the dry land, which his hands have formed.(AA)

O come, let us worship and bow down;
    let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!(AB)
For he is our God,
    and we are the people of his pasture
    and the sheep of his hand.

O that today you would listen to his voice!(AC)
    Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
    as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,(AD)
when your ancestors tested me
    and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.(AE)
10 For forty years I loathed that generation
    and said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray,
    and they do not regard my ways.”(AF)
11 Therefore in my anger I swore,
    “They shall not enter my rest.”(AG)
