⁹ But an evil^[a] spirit^(A) from the Lord came on Saul as he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand. While David was playing the lyre,^(B)

²⁰ so he sent men to capture him. But when they saw a group of prophets^(A) prophesying, with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of God came on^(B) Saul’s men, and they also prophesied.^(C)

²³ So Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even on him, and he walked along prophesying^(A) until he came to Naioth.

¹⁸ Then the Spirit^(A) came on Amasai,^(B) chief of the Thirty, and he said:

So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands.

¹⁴ Then the Spirit^(A) of the Lord came on Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah,^(B) a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly.

²⁰ Then the Spirit^(A) of God came on Zechariah^(B) son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper.^(C) Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken^(D) you.’”

⁵ Then the Spirit of the Lord came on me, and he told me to say: “This is what the Lord says: That is what you are saying, you leaders in Israel, but I know what is going through your mind.^(A)
