³⁵ so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous ^(A)Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the ^(B)son of Berechiah, whom ^(C)you murdered between the ^[a]temple and the altar.

⁵¹ from ^(A)the blood of Abel to ^(B)the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged ^[a]against this generation.’

¹² not as ^(A)Cain, who was of ^(B)the evil one and murdered his brother. And for what reason did he murder him? Because ^(C)his own deeds were evil, but his brother’s were righteous.

¹³ Do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if ^(D)the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have ^(E)passed out of death into life, ^(F)because we love the brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Everyone who ^(G)hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that ^(H)no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone ^(A)the way of Cain, and for pay ^[a]they have given themselves up to ^(B)the error of Balaam, and ^(C)perished in the rebellion of Korah.
