  1. The Sons of Noah

    The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)
  2. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked and told his two brothers outside.
  3. he said, “Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers.”
  4. He also said, “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem.
  5. May God extend Japheth’s territory; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth.”

    The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan.
  7. Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,
  8. Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scattered
  9. and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, as far as Lasha.
  10. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

  15. Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”
  16. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.
  17. The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”
  18. She died at Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep over her.
  19. Afterward Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre (which is at Hebron) in the land of Canaan.
  20. I want you to swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,
  21. And my master made me swear an oath, and said, ‘You must not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,
  22. So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman.
  23. Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,”
  24. Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac;
  25. and he drove all his livestock ahead of him, along with all the goods he had accumulated in Paddan Aram, to go to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.
