Psalm 136-138
21st Century King James Version
136 O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endureth for ever.
2 O give thanks unto the God of gods, for His mercy endureth for ever.
3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His mercy endureth for ever;
4 to Him who alone doeth great wonders, for His mercy endureth for ever;
5 to Him that by wisdom made the heavens, for His mercy endureth for ever;
6 to Him that stretched out the earth above the waters, for His mercy endureth for ever;
7 to Him that made great lights, for His mercy endureth for ever;
8 the sun to rule by day, for His mercy endureth for ever;
9 the moon and stars to rule by night, for His mercy endureth for ever;
10 to Him that smote Egypt in their firstborn, for His mercy endureth for ever;
11 and brought out Israel from among them, for His mercy endureth for ever;
12 with a strong hand and with a stretched out arm, for His mercy endureth for ever;
13 to Him who divided the Red Sea into parts, for His mercy endureth for ever;
14 and made Israel to pass through the midst of it, for His mercy endureth for ever;
15 but overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea, for His mercy endureth for ever;
16 to Him who led His people through the wilderness, for His mercy endureth for ever;
17 to Him who smote great kings, for His mercy endureth for ever;
18 and slew famous kings, for His mercy endureth for ever;
19 Sihon king of the Amorites, for His mercy endureth for ever;
20 and Og the king of Bashan, for His mercy endureth for ever;
21 and gave their land as a heritage, for His mercy endureth for ever;
22 even a heritage unto Israel His servant, for His mercy endureth for ever;
23 who remembered us in our low estate, for His mercy endureth for ever;
24 and hath redeemed us from our enemies, for His mercy endureth for ever;
25 who giveth food to all flesh, for His mercy endureth for ever:
26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven, for His mercy endureth for ever!
137 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down; yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.
2 We hung our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song, and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?
5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cleverness.
6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem’s fall, who said, “Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation thereof!”
8 O daughter of Babylon who art to be destroyed, happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
138 I will praise Thee with my whole heart; before the gods will I sing praise unto Thee.
2 I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth, for Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name.
3 In the day when I cried, Thou answered me, and strengthened me with strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise Thee, O Lord, when they hear the words of Thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly, but the proud He knoweth afar off.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, Thou wilt revive me; Thou shalt stretch forth Thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and Thy right hand shall save me.
8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me; Thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever; forsake not the works of Thine own hands.
