12 As the sun was going down, a (A)deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. 13 Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain (B)that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and (C)they will be afflicted for (D)four hundred years. 14 But (E)I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward (F)they shall come out with great possessions. 15 As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; (G)you shall be buried in a good old age. 16 And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for (H)the iniquity of the Amorites (I)is not yet complete.”

17 When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

12 As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep,(A) and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. 13 Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years(B) your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved(C) and mistreated there. 14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out(D) with great possessions.(E) 15 You, however, will go to your ancestors(F) in peace and be buried at a good old age.(G) 16 In the fourth generation(H) your descendants will come back here,(I) for the sin of the Amorites(J) has not yet reached its full measure.”

17 When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch(K) appeared and passed between the pieces.(L)
