But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, (A)there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”

Signs of the End of the Age

As he sat on (B)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him (C)privately, saying, “Tell us, (D)when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your (E)coming and of (F)the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, (G)“See that no one leads you astray. For (H)many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am (I)the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you (J)are not alarmed, for this (K)must take place, but the end is not yet. For (L)nation will rise against nation, and (M)kingdom against kingdom, and there will be (N)famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of (O)the birth pains.

“Then (P)they will deliver you up (Q)to tribulation and (R)put you to death, and (S)you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will fall away[a] and (T)betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many (U)false prophets will arise (V)and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, (W)the love of many will grow cold. 13 (X)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom (Y)will be proclaimed throughout the whole world (Z)as a testimony (AA)to all nations, and (AB)then the end will come.

Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(E) For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.(F) You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(G) There will be famines(H) and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted(I) and put to death,(J) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.(K) 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets(L) will appear and deceive many people.(M) 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(N) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom(O) will be preached in the whole world(P) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

25 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like (A)ten virgins who took their lamps[a] and went to meet (B)the bridegroom.[b] Five of them were foolish, and five were (C)wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom (D)was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But (E)at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and (F)trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and (G)those who were ready went in with him to (H)the marriage feast, and (I)the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, (J)‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 (K)But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, (L)I do not know you.’ 13 (M)Watch therefore, for you (N)know neither the day nor the hour.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like(A) ten virgins who took their lamps(B) and went out to meet the bridegroom.(C) Five of them were foolish and five were wise.(D) The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.(E)

“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’(F)

“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.(G) And the door was shut.

11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’

12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’(H)

13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.(I)
