²⁹ Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons ^(A)performed duties as ^(B)officials and judges over Israel outside Jerusalem.

³⁰ Of the Hebronites, ^(C)Hashabiah and his brethren, one thousand seven hundred able men, had the oversight of Israel on the west side of the Jordan for all the business of the Lord, and in the service of the king. ³¹ Among the Hebronites, ^(D)Jerijah was head of the Hebronites according to his genealogy of the fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought, and there were found among them capable men ^(E)at Jazer of Gilead. ³² And his brethren were two thousand seven hundred able men, heads of fathers’ houses, whom King David made officials over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God and the ^(F)affairs of the king.

⁸ Moreover in Jerusalem, for the judgment of the Lord and for controversies, Jehoshaphat ^(A)appointed some of the Levites and priests, and some of the chief fathers of Israel, ^[a]when they returned to Jerusalem. ⁹ And he commanded them, saying, “Thus you shall act ^(B)in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and with a loyal heart: ^10 (C)Whatever case comes to you from your brethren who dwell in their cities, whether of bloodshed or offenses against law or commandment, against statutes or ordinances, you shall warn them, lest they trespass against the Lord and ^(D)wrath come upon ^(E)you and your brethren. Do this, and you will not be guilty. ¹¹ And take notice: ^(F)Amariah the chief priest is over you ^(G)in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters; also the Levites will be officials before you. Behave courageously, and the Lord will be ^(H)with the good.”

Dealing with a Sinning Brother

¹⁵ “Moreover ^(A)if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, ^(B)you have gained your brother. ¹⁶ But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ^(C)‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ ¹⁷ And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a ^(D)heathen and a tax collector.

¹⁸ “Assuredly, I say to you, ^(E)whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.
