But Jabez was more honorable than his brethren: and his mother called his name [a]Jabez, saying, Because I bare him in sorrow.

10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, If thou wilt bless me in deed, and enlarge my coasts, and [b]if thine hand be with me, and thou wilt cause me to be delivered from evil, that I be not hurt. And God granted the thing that he asked.

11 ¶ And Chelub the brother of Shuhah begat Mehir, which was the father of Eshton.

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez,[a] saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” 10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!
