Have we lost the right to bring along our wives, our sisters in Jesus? Other emissaries travel with their wives, and so do the brothers of our Lord, not to mention Cephas. Is it just Barnabas and I who have lost the right to earn a living? Is a soldier in combat required to pay his own salary? Who would plant a vineyard and not enjoy one grape from it? Who would care for and nurture a flock but never taste the fresh milk?

Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife(A) along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers(B) and Cephas[a]?(C) Or is it only I and Barnabas(D) who lack the right to not work for a living?

Who serves as a soldier(E) at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard(F) and does not eat its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink the milk?
