⁸ The one who does what is sinful is of the devil,^(A) because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God^(B) appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.^(C)

²⁹ “Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house.

²¹ “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe.

²² But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder.

³¹ Now is the time for judgment on this world;^(A) now the prince of this world^(B) will be driven out.

¹¹ and about judgment, because the prince of this world^(A) now stands condemned.

²⁴ Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom^(A) to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.^{(B) 25} For he must reign^(C) until he has put all his enemies under his feet.^{(D) 26} The last enemy to be destroyed is death.^(E)

¹³ When you were dead in your sins^(A) and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you^[a] alive^(B) with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,^{(C) 14} having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness,^(D) which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.^{(E) 15} And having disarmed the powers and authorities,^(F) he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them^(G) by the cross.^[b]

¹⁴ Since the children have flesh and blood,^(A) he too shared in their humanity^(B) so that by his death he might break the power^(C) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil^(D)—
