1 Peter 3:8-12

Do No Evil

⁸Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic, should love believers,^[a]^(A) and be compassionate^(B) and humble,^[b] ⁹not paying back evil for evil^(C) or insult for insult but, on the contrary, giving a blessing,^(D) since you were called for this, so that you can inherit a blessing.

¹⁰For the^(E) one who wants to love life
and to see good days
must keep his tongue from evil^(F)
and his lips from speaking deceit,^(G)
¹¹and he must turn away^(H) from evil
and do what is good.
He must seek peace^(I) and pursue it,
¹²because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and His ears are open to their request.
But the face of the Lord is against
those who do what is evil.^[c]

¹¹They must turn from evil and do good;

The Lord Delivers the Righteous

Concerning David, when he pretended to be insane in the presence of Abimelech,^[a]^(A) who drove him out, and he departed.

¹I^[b] will praise the Lord at all times;
His praise will always be on my lips.^(B)
²I will boast in the Lord;^(C)
the humble will hear and be glad.^(D)
³Proclaim Yahweh’s greatness with me;^(E)
let us exalt His name together.^(F)

⁴I sought the Lord, and He answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.^(G)
⁵Those who look to Him are^[c] radiant with joy;^(H)
their faces will never be ashamed.^(I)
⁶This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and saved him from all his troubles.^(J)
⁷The Angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear Him, and rescues them.^(K)

⁸Taste and see that the Lord is good.^(L)
How happy is the man who takes refuge in Him!^(M)
⁹You who are His holy ones, fear Yahweh,
for those who fear Him lack nothing.^(N)
¹⁰Young lions^[d] lack food and go hungry,^(O)
but those who seek the Lord
will not lack any good thing.^(P)

¹¹Come, children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.^(Q)
¹²Who is the man who delights in life,
loving a long life to enjoy what is good?^(R)
¹³Keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from deceitful speech.^(S)
¹⁴Turn away from evil and do what is good;^(T)
seek peace and pursue it.^(U)

¹⁵The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and His ears are open to their cry for help.^(V)
¹⁶The face of the Lord is set
against those who do what is evil,^(W)
to erase^[e] all memory of them from the earth.^(X)
¹⁷The righteous^[f] cry out, and the Lord hears,
and delivers them from all their troubles.^(Y)
¹⁸The Lord is near the brokenhearted;
He saves those crushed in spirit.^(Z)

¹⁹Many adversities come to the one who is righteous,
but the Lord delivers him from them all.^(AA)
²⁰He protects all his bones;
not one of them is broken.^(AB)
²¹Evil brings death to the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be punished.^(AC)
²²The Lord redeems the life of His servants,
and all who take refuge in Him will not be punished.^(AD)

¹I will extol the Lord at all times;^(B)
    his praise will always be on my lips.
²I will glory^(C) in the Lord;
    let the afflicted hear and rejoice.^(D)
³Glorify the Lord^(E) with me;
    let us exalt^(F) his name together.

⁴I sought the Lord,^(G) and he answered me;
    he delivered^(H) me from all my fears.
⁵Those who look to him are radiant;^(I)
    their faces are never covered with shame.^(J)
⁶This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.^(K)
⁷The angel of the Lord^(L) encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers^(M) them.

⁸Taste and see that the Lord is good;^(N)
    blessed is the one who takes refuge^(O) in him.
⁹Fear the Lord,^(P) you his holy people,
    for those who fear him lack nothing.^(Q)
¹⁰The lions may grow weak and hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.^(R)

¹⁷The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears^(AG) them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
¹⁸The Lord is close^(AH) to the brokenhearted^(AI)
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

¹⁹The righteous person may have many troubles,^(AJ)
but the Lord delivers him from them all;^(AK)
²⁰he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.^(AL)

²¹Evil will slay the wicked;^(AM)
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
²²The Lord will rescue^(AN) his servants;
no one who takes refuge^(AO) in him will be condemned.
