¹⁷Jonathan once again swore to David^[a] in his love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.^(A)

¹⁷And Jonathan had David reaffirm his oath^(A) out of love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.

²⁶I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother.
You were such a friend to me.
Your love for me was more wonderful
than the love of women.^(A)

²⁶I grieve^(A) for you, Jonathan^(B) my brother;^(C)
you were very dear to me.
Your love for me was wonderful,^(D)
more wonderful than that of women.
