1 Samuel 8:3-5
International Standard Version
3 His sons did not follow Samuel’s example.[a] Instead, they pursued[b] dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.[c]
4 All the elders of Israel gathered together, and came to Samuel at Ramah. 5 They told him, “Look, you’re old, and your sons don’t follow your example.[d] So appoint a king to govern us like all the other[e] nations.”

New International Version
3 But his sons(A) did not follow his ways. They turned aside(B) after dishonest gain and accepted bribes(C) and perverted(D) justice.
4 So all the elders(E) of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.(F) 5 They said to him, “You are old, and your sons do not follow your ways; now appoint a king(G) to lead[a](H) us, such as all the other nations(I) have.”
