9 They must possess the formerly hidden truth of the faith with a clean conscience. 10 And first, let them be tested; then, if they prove themselves blameless, let them be appointed shammashim. 11 Similarly, the wives must be of good character, not gossips, but temperate, faithful in everything.

New International Version
9 They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.(A) 10 They must first be tested;(B) and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.
11 In the same way, the women[a] are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers(C) but temperate(D) and trustworthy in everything.
