Plans for Travel

(A)I will visit you after passing through (B)Macedonia, for (C)I intend to pass through Macedonia, and perhaps I will stay with you or even spend the winter, so that you may (D)help me on my journey, wherever I go. For I do not want to see you now (E)just in passing. I hope to spend some time with you, (F)if the Lord permits. But I will stay in Ephesus until (G)Pentecost, for (H)a wide door for effective work has opened to me, and (I)there are many adversaries.

10 (J)When Timothy comes, see that you put him at ease among you, for (K)he is doing (L)the work of the Lord, as I am. 11 So (M)let no one despise him. (N)Help him on his way (O)in peace, that he may return to me, for I am expecting him with the brothers.

Final Instructions

12 Now concerning (P)our brother Apollos, I strongly urged him to visit you with the other brothers, but it was not at all his will[a] to come now. He will come when he has opportunity.

13 (Q)Be watchful, (R)stand firm in the faith, (S)act like men, (T)be strong. 14 (U)Let all that you do be done in love.

15 Now I urge you, brothers[b]—you know that (V)the household[c] of Stephanas were (W)the first converts in Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves (X)to the service of the saints— 16 (Y)be subject to such as these, and to every fellow worker and laborer. 17 I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have made up for (Z)your absence, 18 for they (AA)refreshed my spirit as well as yours. (AB)Give recognition to such people.

Personal Requests

After I go through Macedonia, I will come to you(A)—for I will be going through Macedonia.(B) Perhaps I will stay with you for a while, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey,(C) wherever I go. For I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.(D) But I will stay on at Ephesus(E) until Pentecost,(F) because a great door for effective work has opened to me,(G) and there are many who oppose me.

10 When Timothy(H) comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord,(I) just as I am. 11 No one, then, should treat him with contempt.(J) Send him on his way(K) in peace(L) so that he may return to me. I am expecting him along with the brothers.

12 Now about our brother Apollos:(M) I strongly urged him to go to you with the brothers. He was quite unwilling to go now, but he will go when he has the opportunity.

13 Be on your guard; stand firm(N) in the faith; be courageous; be strong.(O) 14 Do everything in love.(P)

15 You know that the household of Stephanas(Q) were the first converts(R) in Achaia,(S) and they have devoted themselves to the service(T) of the Lord’s people.(U) I urge you, brothers and sisters, 16 to submit(V) to such people and to everyone who joins in the work and labors at it. 17 I was glad when Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you.(W) 18 For they refreshed(X) my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.(Y)
