⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins^(A) and purify us from all unrighteousness.^(B)

³⁰ That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.^{(A) 31} But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.^(B)

¹³ The Lord said, “It is because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them; they have not obeyed me or followed my law.^{(A) 14} Instead, they have followed^(B) the stubbornness of their hearts;^(C) they have followed the Baals, as their ancestors taught them.” ¹⁵ Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “See, I will make this people eat bitter food^(D) and drink poisoned water.^{(E) 16} I will scatter them among nations^(F) that neither they nor their ancestors have known,^(G) and I will pursue them with the sword^(H) until I have made an end of them.”^(I)
