⁴One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

⁴He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full^[a] respect.^(A)

¹²Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

¹²A deacon must be faithful to his wife^(A) and must manage his children and his household well.^(B)
