⁴ Some time afterward Joash decided to restore the house of the Lord.^(A)

¹² Take care not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you are going, or it will become a snare among you.^{(A) 13} Rather, you shall tear down their altars, break their pillars, and cut down their sacred poles,^{[a](B) 14} for you shall worship no other god, because the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.^(C)

²⁰ Did not Achan son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity!”^(A)

²³ For they also built for themselves high places, pillars, and sacred poles^[a] on every high hill and under every green tree;^(A)

² Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, wrath has gone out against you from the Lord.^(A)
