¹⁶ but they continually ^(A)mocked the messengers of God, ^(B)despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, ^(C)until the wrath of the Lord rose against His people, until there was no remedy.

⁵ This is what the Lord says:

²⁵ Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have ^(A)sent you all My servants the prophets, sending them daily, again and again. ²⁶ Yet they did not listen to Me or incline their ear, but ^(B)stiffened their neck; they ^(C)did more evil than their fathers.

Grieving over Jerusalem

³⁷ “^(A)Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who ^(B)kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, ^(C)the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.
