⁶because the God who said “let light shine out of darkness” has shone in our hearts, to produce the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus the Messiah.

⁷But we have this treasure in earthenware pots, so that the extraordinary quality of the power may belong to God, not to us. ⁸We are under all kinds of pressure, but we are not crushed completely; we are at a loss, but not at our wits’ end;

⁶For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”^[a]^(A) made his light shine in our hearts^(B) to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.^(C)

⁷But we have this treasure in jars of clay^(D) to show that this all-surpassing power is from God^(E) and not from us. ⁸We are hard pressed on every side,^(F) but not crushed; perplexed,^(G) but not in despair;
