17 and their teaching will spread like gangrene. So it is with Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have deviated from the truth. They claim that the resurrection has already taken place, and they undermine the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God [which He has laid] stands [sure and unshaken despite attacks], bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord stand apart from wickedness and withdraw from wrongdoing.”(A)

17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus(A) and Philetus, 18 who have departed from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place,(B) and they destroy the faith of some.(C) 19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm,(D) sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,”(E) and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord(F) must turn away from wickedness.”
