³⁷ Then Eliakim^(A) son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn,^(B) and told him what the field commander had said.

19 When King Hezekiah heard this, he tore^(D) his clothes and put on sackcloth and went into the temple of the Lord. ² He sent Eliakim^(E) the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary and the leading priests,^(F) all wearing sackcloth,^(G) to the prophet Isaiah^(H) son of Amoz.

⁴ When I heard these things, I sat down and wept.^(A) For some days I mourned and fasted^(B) and prayed before the God of heaven.

³ So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting,^(A) and in sackcloth and ashes.^(B)
