¹¹ Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard carried into exile^(A) the people who remained in the city, along with the rest of the populace and those who had deserted to the king of Babylon.^(B)

²² Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon appointed Gedaliah^(A) son of Ahikam,^(B) the son of Shaphan, to be over the people he had left behind in Judah.

⁸ “‘But I will spare some, for some of you will escape^(A) the sword when you are scattered among the lands and nations.^{(B) 9} Then in the nations where they have been carried captive, those who escape will remember^(C) me—how I have been grieved^(D) by their adulterous hearts, which have turned away from me, and by their eyes, which have lusted after their idols.^(E) They will loathe themselves for the evil^(F) they have done and for all their detestable practices.^{(G) 10} And they will know that I am the Lord;^(H) I did not threaten in vain to bring this calamity on them.^(I)
