³⁵ I am now eighty^(A) years old. Can I tell the difference between what is enjoyable and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats and drinks? Can I still hear the voices of male and female singers?^(B) Why should your servant be an added^(C) burden to my lord the king?

²¹ And Solomon ruled^(A) over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River^(B) to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.^(C) These countries brought tribute^(D) and were Solomon’s subjects all his life.

²⁸ They sailed to Ophir^(A) and brought back 420 talents^[a] of gold,^(B) which they delivered to King Solomon.

¹⁰ And she gave the king 120 talents^[a] of gold,^(A) large quantities of spices, and precious stones. Never again were so many spices brought in as those the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.

Solomon’s Splendor^(A)

¹⁴ The weight of the gold^(B) that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents,^[a]

²¹ All King Solomon’s goblets were gold, and all the household articles in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold.^(A) Nothing was made of silver, because silver was considered of little value in Solomon’s days.

¹⁴ “But who will do this?” asked Ahab.

The prophet replied, “This is what the Lord says: ‘The junior officers under the provincial commanders will do it.’”

“And who will start^(A) the battle?” he asked.

The prophet answered, “You will.”
