Slave Owners: 20 These men are troublemakers, disturbing the peace of our great city. They are from some Jewish sect, 21 and they promote foreign customs that violate our Roman standards of conduct.
22 The crowd joined in with insults and insinuations, prompting the city officials to strip them naked in the public square so they could be beaten with rods.

20 They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar(A) 21 by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans(B) to accept or practice.”(C)
22 The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods.(D)
