¶ Thus saith the Lord, For three transgressions of [a]Israel, and for four, I will not turn to it, because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for [b]shoes.

They gape over the head of the poor, in the [c]dust of the earth, and pervert the ways of the meek: and a man and his father will go in to a maid, to dishonor mine holy Name.

And they lie down upon clothes laid to pledge [d]by every altar: and they [e]drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their God.

This is what the Lord says:

“For three sins of Israel,
    even for four, I will not relent.(A)
They sell the innocent for silver,
    and the needy for a pair of sandals.(B)
They trample on the heads of the poor
    as on the dust of the ground
    and deny justice to the oppressed.
Father and son use the same girl
    and so profane my holy name.(C)
They lie down beside every altar
    on garments taken in pledge.(D)
In the house of their god
    they drink wine(E) taken as fines.(F)
