7 The palace master gave them other names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.
8 But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the royal rations of food and wine; so he asked the palace master to allow him not to defile himself. 9 Now God allowed Daniel to receive favour and compassion from the palace master.

7 The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar;(A) to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.(B)
8 But Daniel resolved not to defile(C) himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. 9 Now God had caused the official to show favor(D) and compassion(E) to Daniel,
