⁵ And you shall respond and say before the Lord your God, ‘^(A)My father was a ^[a]wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt and ^[b]resided there, ^(B)few in number; but there he became a ^(C)great, mighty, and populous nation.

⁴ To Isaac I gave ^(A)Jacob and Esau, and ^(B)to Esau I gave Mount Seir, to possess it; but ^(C)Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

⁴ For this is what the Lord ^[a]God says: “My people ^(A)went down to Egypt first to reside there; then the Assyrian oppressed them without reason.

¹⁵ And ^(A)Jacob went down to Egypt, and he and our fathers died there.
