    to their shame they are a warped and crooked generation.^(A)

    in a barren and howling waste.^(B)
He shielded^(C) him and cared for him;
    he guarded him as the apple of his eye,^(D)

²⁰ “I will hide my face^(A) from them,” he said,
    “and see what their end will be;
for they are a perverse generation,^(B)
    children who are unfaithful.^(C)

²³ “I will heap calamities^(A) on them
    and spend my arrows^(B) against them.

²⁴ I will send wasting famine^(A) against them,
    consuming pestilence^(B) and deadly plague;^(C)
I will send against them the fangs of wild beasts,^(D)
    the venom of vipers^(E) that glide in the dust.^(F)
