³⁰ But ^(A)Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing for us to pass ^[a]through his land; for the ^(B)Lord your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, in order to hand him over to you, as he is today.

⁴ However, his father and mother did not know that ^(A)this was of the Lord, for He was seeking an occasion against the Philistines. And at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.

²⁴ ‘This is what the Lord says: “You shall not go up nor fight against your relatives the sons of Israel; return, every man to his house, ^(A)for this thing has come from Me.”’” So they listened to the word of the Lord, and returned to go their way in accordance with the word of the Lord.

¹⁵ So the king did not listen to the people, ^(A)because it was a turn of events from God ^(B)so that the Lord might establish His word, which He spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
