⁸ So at that time we took from these two kings of the Amorites^(A) the territory east of the Jordan, from the Arnon Gorge as far as Mount Hermon.^{(B) 9} (Hermon is called Sirion^(C) by the Sidonians; the Amorites call it Senir.)^{(D) 10} We took all the towns on the plateau, and all Gilead, and all Bashan as far as Salekah^(E) and Edrei, towns of Og’s kingdom in Bashan. ¹¹ (Og king of Bashan was the last of the Rephaites.^(F) His bed was decorated with iron and was more than nine cubits long and four cubits wide.^[a] It is still in Rabbah^(G) of the Ammonites.)

Division of the Land

¹² Of the land that we took over at that time, I gave the Reubenites and the Gadites the territory north of Aroer^(H) by the Arnon Gorge, including half the hill country of Gilead, together with its towns. ¹³ The rest of Gilead and also all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh.^(I) (The whole region of Argob in Bashan used to be known as a land of the Rephaites.^{(J) 14} Jair,^(K) a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maakathites;^(L) it was named^(M) after him, so that to this day Bashan is called Havvoth Jair.^[b]) ¹⁵ And I gave Gilead to Makir.^{(N) 16} But to the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave the territory extending from Gilead down to the Arnon Gorge (the middle of the gorge being the border) and out to the Jabbok River,^(O) which is the border of the Ammonites. ¹⁷ Its western border was the Jordan in the Arabah,^(P) from Kinnereth^(Q) to the Sea of the Arabah^(R) (that is, the Dead Sea^(S)), below the slopes of Pisgah.

⁸ We took their land and gave it as an inheritance^(A) to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.^(B)

List of Defeated Kings

12 These are the kings of the land whom the Israelites had defeated and whose territory they took^(A) over east of the Jordan,^(B) from the Arnon^(C) Gorge to Mount Hermon,^(D) including all the eastern side of the Arabah:^(E)

⁶ Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the Israelites conquered them.^(W) And Moses the servant of the Lord gave their land to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh to be their possession.^(X)

Division of the Land East of the Jordan

⁸ The other half of Manasseh,^[a] the Reubenites and the Gadites had received the inheritance that Moses had given them east of the Jordan, as he, the servant of the Lord, had assigned^(A) it to them.^(B)

¹⁴ But to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance, since the food offerings presented to the Lord, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, as he promised them.^(R)

²⁹ This is what Moses had given to the half-tribe of Manasseh, that is, to half the family of the descendants of Manasseh, according to its clans:

⁴ Now that the Lord your God has given them rest^(A) as he promised, return to your homes^(B) in the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan.^(C)
