“Therefore you shall keep every commandment which I command you today, that you may (A)be strong, and go in and possess the land which you cross over to possess, and (B)that you may prolong your days in the land (C)which the Lord [a]swore to give your fathers, to them and their descendants, (D)‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’ 10 For the land which you go to possess is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and watered it by foot, as a vegetable garden; 11 (E)but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water from the rain of heaven, 12 a land for which the Lord your God cares; (F)the eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year.

13 ‘And it shall be that if you earnestly [b]obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14 then (G)I[c] will give you the rain for your land in its season, (H)the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. 15 (I)And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may (J)eat and be [d]filled.’ 16 Take heed to yourselves, (K)lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and (L)serve other gods and worship them, 17 lest (M)the Lord’s anger be aroused against you, and He (N)shut up the heavens so that there be no rain, and the land yield no produce, and (O)you perish quickly from the good land which the Lord is giving you.

18 “Therefore (P)you shall [e]lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your (Q)soul, and (R)bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 (S)You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 20 (T)And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 that (U)your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like (V)the days of the heavens above the earth.

Observe therefore all the commands(A) I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,(B) and so that you may live long(C) in the land the Lord swore(D) to your ancestors to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.(E) 10 The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt,(F) from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. 11 But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys(G) that drinks rain from heaven.(H) 12 It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes(I) of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.

13 So if you faithfully obey(J) the commands I am giving you today—to love(K) the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul(L) 14 then I will send rain(M) on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains,(N) so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. 15 I will provide grass(O) in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.(P)

16 Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.(Q) 17 Then the Lord’s anger(R) will burn against you, and he will shut up(S) the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce,(T) and you will soon perish(U) from the good land the Lord is giving you. 18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.(V) 19 Teach them to your children,(W) talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.(X) 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,(Y) 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many(Z) in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.(AA)

32 As yet he will remain (A)at Nob that day;
He will (B)shake his fist at the mount of (C)the daughter of Zion,
The hill of Jerusalem.

33 Behold, the Lord,
The Lord of hosts,
Will lop off the bough with terror;
(D)Those of high stature will be hewn down,
And the haughty will be humbled.
34 He will cut down the thickets of the forest with iron,
And Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.

The Reign of Jesse’s Offspring(E)

11 There (F)shall come forth a [a]Rod from the [b]stem of (G)Jesse,
And (H)a Branch shall [c]grow out of his roots.
(I)The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

His delight is in the fear of the Lord,
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
Nor decide by the hearing of His ears;
But (J)with righteousness He shall judge the poor,
And decide with equity for the meek of the earth;
He shall (K)strike the earth with the rod of His mouth,
And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.
Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins,
And faithfulness the belt of His waist.

“The(L) wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.
The cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole,
And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.
(M)They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For (N)the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.

10 “And(O) in that day (P)there shall be a Root of Jesse,
Who shall stand as a (Q)banner to the people;
For the (R)Gentiles shall seek Him,
And His resting place shall be glorious.”

11 It shall come to pass in that day
That the Lord shall set His hand again the second time
To recover the remnant of His people who are left,
(S)From Assyria and Egypt,
From Pathros and Cush,
From Elam and Shinar,
From Hamath and the [d]islands of the sea.

12 He will set up a banner for the nations,
And will [e]assemble the outcasts of Israel,
And gather together (T)the dispersed of Judah
From the four [f]corners of the earth.

The Coming of the Son of Man(A)

29 (B)“Immediately after the tribulation of those days (C)the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 (D)Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, (E)and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 (F)And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His [a]elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The Parable of the Fig Tree(G)

32 “Now learn (H)this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know (I)that [b]it is near—at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, (J)this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 (K)Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

No One Knows the Day or Hour(L)

36 (M)“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of [c]heaven, (N)but My Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 (O)For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 (P)Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 (Q)Watch therefore, for you do not know what [d]hour your Lord is coming. 43 (R)But know this, that if the master of the house had known what [e]hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 (S)Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
    and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[a](A)

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[b] will mourn(B) when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,(C) with power and great glory.[c] 31 And he will send his angels(D) with a loud trumpet call,(E) and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[d] is near, right at the door.(F) 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(G) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(H)

The Day and Hour Unknown(I)(J)

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[e] but only the Father.(K) 37 As it was in the days of Noah,(L) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,(M) up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.(N) 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.(O) 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.(P)

42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.(Q) 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming,(R) he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready,(S) because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
