²²What do people get for all the toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun?^(A)

²³For all their days are full of pain, and their work is a vexation; even at night their minds do not rest. This also is vanity.^(A)

²³All their days their work is grief and pain;^(A) even at night their minds do not rest.^(B) This too is meaningless.

²And I commended the dead, who have already died, more than the living, who are still alive,

²And I declared that the dead,^(A)
who had already died,
are happier than the living,
who are still alive.^(B)
