Holman Christian Standard Bible
14 In the day of prosperity be joyful,(A) but in the day of adversity, consider: God has made the one as well as the other,(B) so that man cannot discover anything that will come after him.
Avoiding Extremes
15 In my futile life[a] I have seen everything:(C) there is a righteous man who perishes in spite of his righteousness,(D) and there is a wicked man who lives long in spite of his evil.(E) 16 Don’t be excessively righteous, and don’t be overly wise.(F) Why should you destroy yourself?

Ecclesiastes 7:14-16
New International Version
14 When times are good, be happy;
but when times are bad, consider this:
God has made the one
as well as the other.(A)
Therefore, no one can discover
anything about their future.
15 In this meaningless life(B) of mine I have seen both of these:
the righteous perishing in their righteousness,
and the wicked living long in their wickedness.(C)
16 Do not be overrighteous,
neither be overwise—
why destroy yourself?
