²⁶That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

²⁶to make her holy,^(A) cleansing^[a] her by the washing^(B) with water through the word,

¹⁸Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

¹⁸He chose to give us birth^(A) through the word of truth,^(B) that we might be a kind of firstfruits^(C) of all he created.
