⁸ For you were once darkness, but now you are light^(A) in the Lord. Walk as children of light^(B)— ⁹ for the fruit of the light^[a] results in all goodness, righteousness, and truth^(C)— ¹⁰ discerning^(D) what is pleasing^(E) to the Lord. ¹¹ Don’t participate in the fruitless^(F) works of darkness, but instead expose them. ¹² For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret. ¹³ Everything exposed by the light is made clear,^{(G) 14} for what makes everything clear is light. Therefore it is said:

¹² giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you^[a] to share in the saints’^[b] inheritance in the light.^{(A) 13} He has rescued^(B) us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom^(C) of the Son^(D) He loves.^{(E) 14} We have redemption,^[c] the forgiveness of sins, in Him.

¹⁵ so that you may be blameless^(A) and pure,^(B) children of God who are faultless^(C) in a crooked^(D) and perverted^(E) generation,^(F) among whom you shine like stars in the world.

⁵ For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness.^(A)
