4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, (A)God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then He said, “Do not come near here; (B)remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 And He said, “(C)I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (D)Then Moses hid his face, for he was (E)afraid to look at God.

5 “Do not come any closer,”(D) God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”(E) 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.”(F) At this, Moses hid(G) his face, because he was afraid to look at God.(H)

13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man(A) standing in front of him with a drawn sword(B) in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”
14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown(C) to the ground(D) in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord[a] have for his servant?”
15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.”(E) And Joshua did so.
